Dr. José d’Alte Fontes began his career in healthcare as a nurse in his hometown of Porto, Portugal, where his compassion and dedication to patient care were first nurtured. After working in hospitals and gaining invaluable experience, he pursued his passion for dentistry, graduating and eventually moving to London to specialise in advanced implantology and oral surgery.
What makes Dr. Fontes’ journey truly unique is how life has come full circle. Today, he practices at the Devonshire Dental Centre, a location with a deep historical connection to the field of nursing. This very place was once home to Florence Nightingale, the renowned “founder” of modern nursing. Her legacy of meticulous care and dedication to improving patient outcomes aligns seamlessly with Dr. Fontes’ own philosophy in healthcare.

I began my educational journey with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Istituto Superior Politécnico da Saúde in Porto, Portugal, which laid the foundation for my medical expertise. My passion for dentistry led me to pursue a Master’s in Implantology from the International Team for Implantology in Porto.
Over the years, I have continuously sought to refine my skills and knowledge, attending numerous specialised programs. Notably, I completed multiple advanced surgical master curricula in regenerative implant dentistry at the University of Szeged, and several Master’s programs at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt, focusing on cutting-edge implant therapy, periodontal surgery, and microsurgical training.
Additionally, I earned certifications in minimally invasive dentistry, soft tissue management, and Pinhole Surgery from esteemed institutions in the US. This extensive and diverse educational background has equipped me with the expertise to provide top-notch dental care and innovative solutions in implantology and periodontology.
